Display Pedestals

The client, a retail computer business, sells Apple products and needed surfaces to display the smaller electronic items. It was desired that the pieces remain within the design vocabulary of the typical Apple Store. Two pedestals were designed in a tapered elliptical form.

A wood interior framework was wrapped with a skin of white matte polycarbonate, a virtually unbreakable plastic. This concept of “wrapping” is visually reinforced by a series of stainless steel machine-screw “buttons” at the overlapping seam. The acrylic top is held off the sides with a reveal that gives the illusion of floating.
