Matching Low Dressers in Black Walnut

The client required a design for a long, low dresser to accommodate two large paintings dominating the wall-space. Two matching dressers, quietly positioned side by side as one, solved this problem through subtle detailing and careful consideration of wood grain.

Each horizontal sequence of drawer faces, in addition to the cabinet top, was cut from a single plank of wood. Thick slabs of solid wood make the cabinet sides, and extend to the floor to support the cabinet. The end-grain profile of the drawer faces and finished back overlap the sides in an interesting symmetrical composition, and allows the two matching cabinets to be pushed together with an equal reveal between adjacent drawer faces.
